THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF TREEHUGGING
Why do people hug trees? Is tree hugging good for us? Research shows the real & long-term benefits of spending time in the forest & around trees include, reduced stress, improved immunity, lower blood pressure & accelerated recovery from illness or trauma. When you hug a tree you release a hormone called oxytocin – known as the hormone of love, trust, & all the warm & fuzzy feels. Think about what it feels like to hug another person… it’s wonderful isn’t it?! & whilst we are not suggesting that you replace human hugs with tree hugs, what we are saying is, trees are living beings too & therefore, hugs with them are also wonderful.
The Science of Tree Hugging: Trees are deeply rooted in the Earth, literally. Their roots stretch down into the soil, drawing nutrients and water. This deep connection means that trees are also connected to the Earth’s electrical field. So, when you touch a tree, you’re indirectly making contact with the Earth’s energy.
Conductivity of Trees: Trees contain moisture and minerals, making them conductive. When you touch a tree, especially a large, healthy one, you’re effectively making a connection to the Earth’s energy through the tree’s conductive properties. Surface Contact: For grounding to be effective, direct contact with the conductive surface (in this case, the tree bark) is essential. Touching the tree with your bare hands, hugging it, or leaning against it can create a grounding effect.
If you’re ready to hug a tree for health benefits, here’s how to do it right:
Choose the Right Tree: Opt for a large, healthy tree with a thick trunk and deep roots. Older trees are usually better conductors due to their extensive root systems.
Bare Skin Contact: For the best results, make sure your skin is in direct contact with the tree. Touch it with your bare hands, lean your forehead against it, or give it a full embrace. Time Matters: Spend at least 10-20 minutes in contact with the tree to allow sufficient time for the grounding effect to take place.
GROUNDING - EARTHING IN NATURE
Grounding or grounding is a relatively new wellness trend that has been gaining popularity in recent years. The practice involves connecting with the earth by walking barefoot on natural surfaces such as grass, sand, or dirt. The idea is that this connection to the earth can help reduce inflammation and promote healing in the body.
Grounding/grounding can help balance the electrical charge of the body. The body is constantly generating electrical energy, and it is possible that exposure to electromagnetic fields in the environment can disrupt this balance. By connecting to the earth’s natural electrical charge, grounding can potentially restore this balance and improve overall health.
Grounding/grounding can help reduce the effects of chronic stress on the body. Chronic stress can lead to a wide range of health problems, including inflammation, immune disorders, and cardiovascular disease. By promoting relaxation and lowering cortisol levels, grounding can counteract some of these negative effects of stress. Reduction of chronic pain Reduce inflammation Reducing fatigue and increasing energy levels Improve sleep quality Uplifting mood Helps with faster recovery after exercise Supporting heart health Reduction of hypertension and blood pressure.
